Glasgow high street 'among most expensive in the UK for top brands'
Saturday, July 31st, 20100 Comments | Herald, The; Glasgow (UK), Apr 20, 2010 | by helen mcardle
GLASGOW retailers are today accused of levying an “extortionate high street tax” on consumers, after a survey found shoppers in the city forked out almost 34% more for goods on the high street than they would have paid for them online.
Glasgow also came sixth in the survey of the most expensive cities for shopping in Britain – three places ahead of Edinburgh.
The table is the result of a new nationwide mystery shopping exercise carried out by shopping comparison website PriceRunner.co.uk.
Each mystery shopper walked the length of at least one major high street per city – in Glasgow’s case, the golden L of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street – collecting as many prices as possible for 10 items in a basket of popular consumer goods. In each case shoppers were asked to obtain prices for a precise make and model in order to make fair comparisons.
The total cost of the basket of goods from the high street in Glasgow was pound(s)2,256.78, some pound(s)471 more expensive than ordering the same goods online. In Edinburgh, the total cost was pound(s)2,188.26.
The percentage mark-up from the cheapest online price to the average Glasgow high street price varied from 6.14% on a Yves Saint Laurent make-up product to 80.05% for Nike trainers. Typically the average extra levy – or “high street tax” – was 33.52%.
Marc Thomas, UK manager for PriceRunner.co.uk, said: “Consumers are paying the price for shopping on the high street and Glasgow is no exception

This is due
Saturday, July 31st, 2010This is due to the very same reasons. Consider the fact that your body has been out of line for so long that it is going to feel different and it may hurt a bit to fix it. Although your doctor will tell you what to expect from the chiropractic care treatment, it is a sure thing that benefits are likely if you need them.
Ideally, everyone should seek out a doctor for this type of treatment. Yet, this is not always the case. The benefits of chiropractic care should push more people into doing it because it can be so overwhelmingly beneficial to your body and your mind’s well being.

Not only programming is expensive and
Thursday, July 29th, 2010Not only programming is
expensive and time consuming, a program that will be used only once or even once a year is particularly wasteful. Further, creating robust programs require a fair bit of testing and if a program has not been well-tested, it could be dangerous and cause irreparable data damage.
Use a scripting or a non-programming approach as much as possible. SAP provided tools such as BDC, CATT, LSMW, and third party tools such as Winshuttle?s TxShuttle will allow you to avoid programming to a large extent.
2. Do not Upload Directly to SAP tables.
While this point is very obvious, it
cannot be overemphasized. Writing directly to SAP tables avoids all the data
validation and checks and balances that happen when creating data through the
normal SAP transactions.

One such example may
Thursday, July 29th, 2010One such example may be that organisations that do
encounter communication problems rely more on written forms of
communication, as this way they have a better record of what was
agreed which will cut down the chance of misinterpretation. This may
well result in the organisation showing a greater level of
formalisation than that which would have existed if such a form of
communication had not been implemented. Another good example would be
an instance of e-commerce, where setting up a number of identical
websites, the only difference being the language they carry, would
make it easier both for the customer to place orders, as they could do
so in their own language, and also the seller to interpret the order.
People all across different nations behave differently, and for
different reasons, due to their religion.

Our focus is always on
Thursday, July 29th, 2010Our focus is always on how we feel, what we want, what we are getting, how to satisfy ourselves more, our partner’s behavior with us and so on. As we focus more about ourselves, our partner gets to feel neglected. It is difficult to say how many of us quiz their partner about how they are feeling with the marriage and raise all the questions in the context of how they are feeling and what they desire.
As we focus not only on ourselves but also on our partner, the marriage will become stronger. Because the partner will get the feeling of getting attention about his/her feelings. Our selfishness should not kill our marriage, because it will always end in a disaster. One fine day when our partner walks out, we are shocked and wonder – what went wrong? We should have taken more care of our partner’s feeling, desires and emotions. We never did that. So the result was their walking out. Why should we get surprised? We did that. Therefore it is important to quiz ourselves and our partner about our marriage continuously. That will show us the areas of dissatisfaction.

Ofgem must be more energetic

IT was only to be expected that the coldest winter for 30 years would be a profitable one for gas and electricity companies. Not content with almost doubling profits in the first half of the year, however, British Gas (which trades as Scottish Gas north of the border) is warning of an impending rise in household fuel bills while announcing a pound(s)585m profit.
Consumers are entitled to feel they are being held to ransom by energy companies which put up retail prices to reflect their increased costs but are notably slow off the mark in passing on a reduction in wholesale prices to consumers.
Privatisation was supposed to inject competition into the market to drive down prices and result in better service for customers. Two decades on, a series of takeovers has reduced the number of energy suppliers from more than 20 in the late 1990s to just six main providers, recently joined by two new competitors, Ovo Energy and First Utility.
Accusations that “the big six”, four of which are owned by foreign corporations, are operating as a cartel were dismissed by the regulator Ofgem but there is a consistent pattern of a price rise or reduction being followed by all the others. British Gas has tended to lead the pack but its 10% price cut in February (a major factor in attracting 223,000 new customers over the last year) was in response to sustained pressure from consumer groups after wholesale prices had plummeted by 60% in the previous 18 months.
The relationship between the retail and wholesale prices of gas is so opaque that customers and pressure groups find it difficult to question claims by suppliers that the mismatch is due to price fluctuation between the time wholesale supplies were bought and retailed. OECD statistics showing UK gas and electricity bills have risen twice as fast as the EU average must fuel suspicion.
With 4,000 different tariffs on offer, only those with access to online comparison websites tend to switch suppliers to secure the best deal. The regulator, Ofgem, has been far too feeble in safeguarding the interests of consumers. Despite ruling that companies should not charge customers more than the cost of processing different payment methods, for example, pricing policies still penalise those who pay quarterly (often those on the lowest incomes) while the best deals are aimed at those who pay by monthly direct debit.
More transparent billing and simpler tariffs, along with the installation of “smart” meters which avoid the need for estimated readings and allow consumers to monitor their usage, are essential if competition is to be effective.
The home insulation scheme begun under the last government is one of the most effective ways to reduce the energy bills of people on the lowest incomes; it would be a mistake if it were sacrificed to meet budget reduction targets,
Ultimately, prices can only be stabilised by reducing dependence on volatile wholesale energy markets

Beginning this fall, the Minot State University Department of Special Education and the Graduate School are offering a developmental disabilities/autism-spectrum disorders emphasis under the Master of Science degree in special education. Designed in an online format, the special education department tailored this DD/ASD master’s degree emphasis for teachers, human resource professionals, allied health professionals and parents.
“MSU’s new developmental disabilities/autism-spectrum disorders online option will help overcome the training limitations for professionals who live in rural areas and want to advance their scholarly understanding of DD/ASD,” said Jennifer Hefter, instructor of special education. “The program also meets the needs of parents of children with developmental disabilities and autism-spectrum disorders.”
The DD/ASD emphasis includes coursework in assessment, behavior management, program development and implementation, provisions of physical care and sensory issues, rehabilitative techniques, assistive technology, collaborative techniques, social training and use of various team-planning models. After demonstrating mastery of core competencies, students will participate in public schools or community-based agencies to fulfill a practicum component

Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains, former Great
Thursday, July 29th, 2010Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains, former Great Plains Software Dynamics and eEnterprise was designed in earlier 1990th as ERP, which can be easily transferable to the winning Database and OS platform and it was originally available on Mac and PC ? Mac OS and Microsoft Windows respectively. Graphical platforms battle is pretty much over and now with eCommerce demands, we should look at Great Plains Dynamics tables structure:
? Naming Convention. Great Plains was designed to be ready to move to the winning database platform and probably this is why we see this a bit complicated naming convention in place: SOP10100, RM00101, IV00101 ? these are samples: SOP header, Customer master, Inventory master. First ? we see module prefix: SOP ? Sales Order Processing, RM ? Receivables management, IV ? Inventory control, etc., then 0 stays for the master files, 1 ? so-called work files (before transaction being posted), 2 ? open files (after transaction is posted) and 3 ? historical files (when you close the year in General Ledger ? transactions are moved from open to history files). So as you see ? logic is present and structured, but it is not friendly to the developer, who never seen and worked with Great Plains Dynamics.

Uncoiling Airacobra's tale

If the corroded shell of a World War II fighter plane could talk, it would end the mystery of how it ended up at the bottom of a lake in northern Russia.
Members of the Ira G. Ross Aerospace Museum are making strides to restore the P-39Q Airacobra, which was discovered with both its leather-bound logbook and the remains of a Russian pilot six years ago. The plane sits in pieces at the old Bell Aircraft plant in Wheatfield, where it was manufactured in November 1943.
Museum officials hope to exhibit the aircraft in about a year, another tribute to the region’s manufacturing prowess during World War II.
“It’s an aircraft representing one of the 10,000 that went to help our allies, which is a monumental effort that Western New York was able to mount,” said Hugh M. Neeson, director of development at the museum in HSBC Arena. “It made a major impact because the Soviet Union was actively fighting the Germans much earlier than the Americans.”
The plane and its pilot went missing during a 1944 ferry flight out of Novinka, near Murmansk in northern Russia, to northern Norway, according to the Web site for Warbird Finders, the British company that pulled the aircraft from its icy grave 60 years later.
A fisherman discovered the plane at the bottom of Lake Mart-Yavr near Russia’s Norwegian border in July 2004. It was disassembled and transported to Britain, where Neeson saw it in March 2008. He said he considered it to be one of the “finest artifacts” the group could have been able to acquire.
The museum purchased the aircraft for $400,000, returning it to the old Bell site in April 2009
