I. Introductions/Announcements:
Biodiesel grant opportunities for Northern Kentucky public schools are now
available. A question was raised about Boone County receiving funds. Kim
is waiting to hear about the status of the Covington Marathon terminal from
Brad Allsop. A site for a JatroDiesel plant was approved by the EPA in Miamisburg.
Cinergy has completed a solid draft of their mobile emissions strategy. Darlene
Radcliffe will be taking the lead on the project. Steve P. reported that
he will be involved in the planning stages of a biofuel station at the University
of Northwest Ohio in Lima offering E85, E10, B5 and B20 to the public. He
also announced that Sunrise CoOp in Norwalk would be changing out 8 pump
dispensers to E85 and E10.
II. Project Updates:
a. Marine Diesel Collaboration
Kim and Ken met with Adam Schmidt from the Cargill AgHorizons.
They learned that the Cincinnati port is primarily used for unloading
construction cargo including steel and lumber. Grain is one of
the few exports. Ken and Kim were given names of additional barge
leasing companies to help with their research. A suggestion was
made to call Greater Cincinnati Marine Dry Dock to get more information.
b. Highland Heights
The public works director has been out of town and has not had
the opportunity to move forward with plans to use biodiesel.
c. E85 Site
Complications with the Shell station location on Erie and Brotherton
have stalled progress due to the age of the tank intended for
the conversion to E85. The tank was not certified to store E85.
Kim will follow up with Lykins to explore other alternatives.
d. Paul’s Bus Service
Kim will write a letter to Marathon requesting the establishment
of biodiesel pumps. It was suggested that Brad Allsop be copied
on the letter.
e. Skurrow’s Oil Company
The owner, Chuck LaMacchia, is interested in marketing the use
of biodiesel to his customers; Kim volunteered to develop a one-page
fact sheet to distribute to his trucking customers.
III. Burst of Energy Day:
TSCFN supported the efforts of the Ohio Soybean Council and Ohio
Corn Marketing Program to promote the use of soy biodiesel and
ethanol at the Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005. TSCFN
produced and distributed a one-page flyer that highlighted local
efforts of biofuels use, in the Jungle Zone outside the stadium.
This was a pilot project and could possibly develop into an ongoing
project for TSCFN.
IV. Memorandum of Agreement with
Clean Fuels Ohio:
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was submitted to the Clean Fuels Ohio to enter
into a contractual relationship for the payment of $10,000 towards the completion
of activities listed in the Ohio Soybean Council, Ohio Corn Marketing Program
and Ohio Air Quality Development Authority grants.
V. Biofuels Maintenance Payback
Workshop:
Tom Bach from Kenton County Schools and Hart Moore from Griffin Industries will
present on Jan. 19, at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Tom will discuss
cost effectiveness and maintenance records based on his experience using biodiesel
in Kenton County school buses and Hart will give tips on handling and use of
biodiesel blends. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
The next steering committee meeting
is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2006, from 8:30 a.m. to 10
a.m., at the Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services
.
