I. Introductions/Announcements:
Three new members were introduced and welcomed. Steve Proffitt gave everyone
a heads up about an article featuring ethanol production just published in
the Discovery magazine. It was brought to everyone’s attention that
Jeff Lykins had been interviewed on Night Line featuring the cause and effect
of fuel pricing and that Channel 12 was introduced to the world of biodiesel
with a tour of Griffin Industries a few weeks ago.
II. TSCFN Brochure/Website
Design
The new brochures were distributed and comments of approval were given. Members
were able to view the first draft of TSCFN’s new home page Suggestions
were made to add links to other related organizations such as NEVC and the
biodiesel board and to add emission reduction statistics to the website. A
buyer’s guide for clean fuel vehicles was also thought to be beneficial
for the website.
III. Membership
Update:
Membership contacts were reviewed. Griffin Industries, HCDOES,
OKI, Cinergy, OSU Extension and the US Post Office were added as
new members.
IV. Goals/Objectives
Revision
Kim requested that the action item of recruiting three new members
each month be revised. It was agreed to reduce the number of
new members to one per month and that recruitment will happen
as we progress as an organization and are more involved in the
community. This action item will be reviewed periodically.
V. Projects
Kim announced that the US EPA Region V is interested in coordinating efforts
to co-host a diesel emissions reduction program targeting the maritime industry
in Cincinnati. According to the EPA’s research, Cincinnati is the fifth
largest inland port in the States. Additional research is being conducted to
assess the interest level and the possibility of having a well-attended event.
She also mentioned that efforts are underway to get an E85 pump in Cincinnati.
Through the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) computer program and
the BMV records, areas having large concentrations of flex fuel vehicles in
Hamilton County were identified. Also, in a meeting with Lykins, the Corn Growers
Association and Central Ohio Clean Fuels Coalition and TSCFN, the decision
was made to pursue a Marathon station at the corner of Wooster Pike and Route
50 for conversion of their premium pump. Lykins is working with Marathon to
receive a competitive fuel price. Using an updated BMV database and GIS, the
potential market is being reviewed.
VI. Educational Outreach
TSCFN will participate in an environmental education resource fair
at the zoo by displaying the Honda Insight, on Sept. 14. This will
be an opportunity to introduce the organization to educators.
The first “Just the Facts” event targeting school transportation
managers and their mechanics held on Aug. 2 was a success with
23 in attendance representing 12 school districts.
The second event targeting the same group will focus on engine
preheaters on Oct. 20, 2005, at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of
Commerce (NKCC).The Director of Transportation from the New Richmond
School District will represent the end users point of view as a
supplement to the Webasto vendor’s presentation.
Country Mark has agreed to present at the third workshop featuring
biodiesel maintenance payback, scheduled for Jan. 19, 2006, at
NKCC,
Plans for the Ride-N-Drive, sponsored by GM, Nov. 1, at the Clermont
County fair grounds are shaping up. The agenda is almost complete
with most of the presenters confirmed. Pickaway Commissioner John
Stevenson has agreed to present from the political perspective
and there is a possibility that newly elected Congresswoman Jean
Schmidt may participate. We have set the goal for 80 in attendance.
VI. Educational Outreach
The event will be held at Ault Park as they will be recognized
for their plans to use B100 in their vehicles and mowing equipment.
Newly elected Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has been invited to
speak at the event and she has shown interest in participating.
The celebration will be scheduled around her calendar. Members
were encouraged to attend and be involved in some capacity.
There was discussion about staging a Lykins Oil tanker and
using it to pump the symbolic one billion gallon into a park
tractor. Hart Moore and Don Chapman voiced an interest in having
their organizations represented.
The next meeting is scheduled
for Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., at the Hamilton
County Department of Environmental Services.
